Ground Vehicle System

Post by Kathleen O'Shea »

Information on the ground vehicle system that I developed.

--------------------

Wesson Light High Mobility Tactical Vehicle

For scouting, patrolling, transportation of an individual squad and adaptable for use in specific missions. This is the most frequently used type of ground vehicle, especially in the streets of compact and hostile towns and cities. The Wesson can tow a single axle Trailer that contains an additional Cerberus Transport System Mini Module.

Standard Complement:

Carries 6 to 9 Marines (the usual size of a ground Squad):

• 1 x Marine - Driver

• 1 x Marine - Navigator/Comms

• 1 x Marine - Mounted Weapon Systems Operator

• 3-6 x Marines – Passengers (Depending on Configuration)

Emergency Capacity:

The Wesson can carry up to 14 people in an emergency situation, but makes practical use of the vehicle and higher speeds, difficult.

Specifications:

• Open or Closed Top: Open or Closed (Depends on setup)

• Number of wheels: 4

• Length: 6.27 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Width minus Mirrors: 2.49 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Height: 2.70 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Weapons: 1 x Type IV Remote Controlled Phaser Canon with Integrated Mark 25 Revolving Grenade Launcher

• Max Speed: 122 km/h

Description:

A small, HMMV style ground vehicle, the Wesson is a combination closed/open top construction so that if the Marines need to occupy the back they can open fire from the sides if necessary. Because of the compact nature of the vehicle, it can hold very few supplies and leaves little room for movement...but its simplicity makes it easy to repair out in the field, easy to maintain, and easy to maneuver around built up areas and city streets. The rear section features interchangeable modules for adaptation to numerous mission configurations.

It has puncture resistant, all-terrain, large tyres that make it possible to maneuver across nearly all types of ground, even under high speeds, although this should only be done in emergencies. However, it has the capability of lifting off the ground in emergencies but only with enough power for very short bursts and no more than a maximum of 1 meter off the ground...for example where the path ahead is too broken or damaged to drive over and the vehicle has need to clear the obstacle ahead.

The closed top front of the vehicle holds the driver and the naviagator/comms, and the Mounted Weapon Systems Operator. The back holds the squads supplies, and can also hold additional personnel per configuration. This vehicle is outfitted with a Winch and Towing Kit.

Configurations and Crew Sizes:

• Command and Control-7

• Reconnaissance-8

• Troop-9

• MK 17 Missile Turret-5

• Cargo Carrier-3

• Maintenance Shelter Carrier-5

• Tactical Ambulance-4 plus two stretcher or four ambulatory patients

• Small Power Generator-3

--------------------

Winchester: Medium Tactical Vehicle

The Winchester was developed for transporting more than one squad at a time, along with supplies if needed, and for. With its Modular construction (designed to use either the Mini Modules or Standard from the Cerberus Transport System) the Winchester can be modified in many configurations to accommodate a wide range of applications with a single vehicle. This includes troop transport, medevac, logistics, and command and control. In addition, the Winchester can tow a variety of trailers that contains either additional Cerberus Transport System Modules or other loads.

Standard Complement:

Can carry 12 Marines (2 ground Squads) plus supplies, or 18 Marines (3 ground Squads) and no supplies.

• 1 x Marine – Driver

• 1 x Marine – Navigator/Comms

• 2 x Marines – Mounted Weapon Systems Operators (1 in cab, 1 with Standard or Mini Squad Module)

• 8-14 Marines – Passengers

Emergency Capacity:

The Winchester can carry 28 people in the back in emergencies, but it is not recommended unless absolutely necessary and it renders the Module mounted weapon unusable and makes vehicle maneuverability more difficult.

Specifications:

• Open of Closed Top: Capable of both

• Number of wheels: 4/6/8 (Depending on Configuration)

• Length: 6 Wheel-7.52 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Width minus Mirrors: 2.5 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Height: 2.65 Meters Empty (Varies depending on configuration)

• Weapons: 2 x Type IV Remote Controlled Phaser Canon with Integrated Mark 25 Revolving Grenade Launcher (1 mounted on the cab and always available, 1additional when outfitted with either of the Squad Modules)

• Max Speed: 100 km/h

Description:

A larger truck style vehicle, this is ideal for transporting up to three Squads and supplies, or four Squads and no supplies. The base Truck has 2 axles, but two additional axles may be bolted for configuration. It has an enclosed armored metal cab, and an open flatbed platform making up the rear of the vehicle to carry Modules. It’s small enough to still be able to navigate streets and built up areas, however, as it’s more cumbersome than the Wesson it is slower. This vehicle can also be used to deliver large amounts of supplies for humanitarian tasks if manned only with one Squad.

It has puncture resistant, all-terrain, large tires that make it possible to maneuver across nearly all types of ground, even under high speeds, although this should only be done in emergencies. However, it has the capability of lifting off the ground in emergencies but only with enough power for very short bursts and no more than a maximum of 1 meter off the ground...for example where the path ahead is too broken or damaged to drive over and the vehicle has need to clear the obstacle ahead.

The closed front compartment of the vehicle holds the driver and navigator/comms, and the Module holds the passengers and the Marines manning the mounted weapons. If there are only two squads being transported, there is room for several crates of supplies; otherwise another squad can fit in the back instead. The weapons are remote controlled and capable of firing in all directions even when moving. One weapon is mounted on the cab and is available all no matter the Winchesters configuration. This vehicle is outfitted with a Winch and Towing Kit.

Configurations:

• 2+2 Wheel Standard Cargo Carrier-Carries 1 Mini Cerberus Module or equivalent plus extra space.

• 2+4 Wheel Extended Cargo Carrier-Carries one Extended Cerberus Module or equivalent

• 2+6 Wheel Heavy Cargo Carrier-Carries one vehicle module or equivalent

• Troop Carrier

• Medivac Unit

• Command and Control

• Logistics

• Tractor

• Recovery Vehicle

• Power Generator

• 2+2 Wheel Short Configuration Cargo and Tactical Vehicle

--------------------

Hercules: Heavy Logistics Vehicle System

This is the workhorse of the Marines Ground Vehicle System. The Vehicle itself is capable of carrying either one or two Cerberus Vehicle Modules (or other combinations) or other heavy loads, depending on the affixed bed. In addition it can pull one or more six, eight, or ten wheeled trailers of differing designs.

Complement:

The Hercules carries 3 • 1 x Marine – Driver (can double up to man a mounted weapon when the vehicle is stationary)

• 1 x Marine – Navigator/Comms (can double up to man a mounted weapon when the vehicle is stationary)

• 1 x Marine – Mounted Weapons/Loadmaster

Emergency Capacity:

Depends on the type and number of Modules loaded onto the vehicle and/or trailers.

Specifications:

• Open or Closed Top: Closed

• Number of wheels: 10

• Trailer System: A six, eight, or ten-wheeled trailer of various configurations capable of transporting multiple Cerberus Transport System Modules or other heavy loads.

• Length: 12.9 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Width minus Mirrors: 3.15-6.35 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Height: 4.1 Meters Empty (Varies depending on configuration)

• Weapons: 1 x Type Remote Controlled V Phaser Canon with Integrated Mark 25 Revolving Grenade

• Max Speed: 64 km/h

Configurations:

• Cargo Hauler

• Palletized Load System

• Mission Adaptable Platform

• Tractor

• Recovery Vehicle (Wrecker)

• Crane

• Tanker (Fuel or other liquids)

• Tactical Fire Fighting Vehicle

Description:

A 10 wheeled large stature vehicle, it is entirely constructed with a reinforced steel armor frame. The rear of the unit is configurable per mission, and can function as a heavy cargo hauler, trailer tractor, or mission-adapted specialty unit. Because of the weight and style of the vehicle, it is not always built to operate in compact streets and built up areas.

It has a series of puncture resistant, all-terrain, heavy duty tires along each side of the vehicle that makes it possible to maneuver across nearly all types of ground, but not at high speeds.

The front compartment of the vehicle houses the driver, navigator, and weapons operator/loadmaster. This vehicle is outfitted with a 2 Winches, located on the front and back , plus an anti-grav/tractor load system.

--------------------

Shell: Multi-Roll Ground Vehicle

The Shell is a true multi-roll vehicle capable of a large range of missions depending on the installed Module. Additionally, several bolt-on items are available as well. The Shell is capable of both land and amphibious operation. The Shell also comes as a variant; the Colt. This configuration is specifically designed for front line combat situation. Due to the weight of this variant it is incapable of amphibious operations.

Standard Complement:

The Shell carries a standard compliment of 10 Marines.

• 1 x Marine – Driver

• 1 x Marine – Navigator/Comms

• 1 x Marine – Mounted Weapon Systems Operator

• 7 x Additional Marine Personnel (Number varies on mission configuration)

Emergency Capacity:

The Shell can carry up to 15 people in the back Module (Depending on deployed Module), but this makes the use of the weapons very difficult because of the space constraints.

Specifications:

• Open or Closed Top: Capable of both

• Number of wheels: 8

• Length: 8.0 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Width: 2.5 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Height: 2.66 Meters (Varies depending on configuration)

• Weapons: 1 x Type Remote Controlled V Phaser Canon with Integrated Mark 25 Revolving Grenade Launcher, secondary weapons depend upon configuration.

• Max Speed: 103 km/h on land, 10 km/h on water

Description:

An 8 wheeled low stature vehicle, the Shell features a cab that is entirely enclosed with reinforced armor metal sides and top, and an open area in the rear designed to accept Modules specifically designed for use with the Shell. Additionally, the Colt can be fitted with a standard Flatbed insert that allows it to transport either 1 Standard or 2 Mini Modules from the Cerberus Transport System. Because of the weight and style of the vehicle, it is not always practical for compact streets and built up areas, however it is possible for the vehicle to navigate them at slow speeds. The shell offers the features and performances required of a modern multirole vehicle, which is well suited to practically any battlefield, peace keeping/peace enforcing, or humanitarian aid role anywhere in the galaxy. This vehicle is outfitted with a Winch and Towing Kit.

It has a series of puncture resistant, all-terrain, heavy duty tires along each side of the vehicle that makes it possible to maneuver across nearly all types of ground, even under high speeds, although this should only be done in emergencies. The Shell is also capable of amphibious operation. It does have the capability of lifting off the ground in emergencies but only with enough power for very short bursts and no more than a maximum of 1 meter off the ground...for example where the path ahead is too broken or damaged to drive over and the vehicle has need to clear the obstacle ahead.

Shell-Colt Variant: Heavy Tactical Vehicle

The Colt variant of the Shell was specifically designed for sieges, defense, heavy fire, and destruction of obstructions. The main unit itself is only deployed in one configuration; however there are several bolt-on additions that are available.

Complement and Specifications:

The Colt carries 6 Marines (one ground Squad), but can hold up to 8 for full fire potential on the move.

• 1 x Marine – Driver (can double up to man a mounted weapon when the vehicle is stationary)

• 1 x Marine – Navigator/Comms (can double up to man a mounted weapon when the vehicle is stationary)

• 4-6 x Marines – Mounted Weapons

• Weapons: 1 x Turret Mounted TR-133 Ballistic Cannon, 2 x Type V Remote Controlled Phaser Canon with Integrated Mark 25 Revolving Grenade Launcher, 1 x Mark 26 Remote Controlled Vehicle Grenade Launcher, 1 x M-17 Remote Controlled Multi-role Missile Launcher, 1 x Remote Controlled Turret Mounted 80mm Medium Mortar

• Defensive Systems: Light Shield System, Ablative Armor

Emergency Capacity:

Just about fits 10 people in the back, but this makes the use of the weapons very difficult because of the space constraints.

The front compartment of the vehicle houses the driver and the navigator, and the back holds the rest of the marines, both while in transport and when using the mounted weapons. There are two mounted phaser canons protruding from each reinforced side of the vehicle, a turret mounted 80mm mortar on top of the vehicle, and a missile launcher across the top that is accessed via a hatch at the top of the vehicle. The weapons can be used while the vehicle is in motion or stationary, although true precision can only be achieved while stationary. This vehicle is outfitted with a 2 Winches, located on the front and back.
